Starting this week, Cook County is sending notices of changes in assessments to all residential, office, industrial and commercial properties. This will occur in the northern tier from New Trier west to Barrington township. The assessor will be able to re-evaluate all parcels, consider sales from the past 3 years and issue new assessments.
Given the rebound in many real estate markets, we are expecting significant increases in assessments for all types of properties, which will inevitably result in higher real estate taxes. Remember, there is only a 30 day window in which an appeal may be filed.
